Construction Law

In addition to our firm’s other practice areas, since 1978, founding shareholders Richard Ditlevson and G. Saxon Rodgers have represented contractors, developers, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers as well as owners, with the goal of providing practical, economical legal services. While our firm is proud of its litigation expertise and record, we also know full well that litigation is only a part of quality legal representation and counsel. We have found that our construction industry clients in particular are often better served by our focusing on preventative maintenance, which is accomplished principally through intelligent contract preparation and administration.

Our practical experience with construction practices and business operations gives us critical insight and allows us to offer a proactive approach to our clients’ legal needs. For example, as a master carpenter, cabinetmaker, and former construction foreman, associate attorney Steven M. Sayre’s knowledge of the procedures, relationships and creative processes at work in the building industry tends to minimize the dollars our clients spend “educating” us about their needs and problems. In this way, our firm is often able to function like in-house counsel.

Our understanding of the building industry frequently enables us to foresee legal and practical difficulties that our clients might face in their business. By working with them on a regular basis, we are able in many cases to efficiently and inexpensively prevent or minimize the effects of such circumstances.

Representation of construction industry and real property development and investment clients constitutes a substantial portion of our practice. We are proud of that fact and proud of the client relationships we have developed in this area and the successes and accomplishments of our clients.
